Whoops! Sent some of you the wrong book

Published over 1 year ago • 3 min read

Welcome to my very first newsletter. I wish it was off to a better start but, it begs the question...

Do I know what I am doing?

Hell no!

But I am advised to do something. Anything. So, I am faking it till I make it.

First of all, here is the correct book. You know, the one you signed up for, The Complete Digital Nomad Visa Guide.

You can keep the other one too, Killer Tips for a Killer Website, in case it comes in handy.

And in a final bid for your forgiveness, you can download my much larger, more useful and newly launched book, Goodbye Office, Hello World! for free from Amazon for four days. I will provide the link at the bottom of this email.

So, there you go. No hard sell, upsell, or bullshit, just free shit.

Now, who the hell am I? My name is Tim, and I'm one of those modern day vagabonds that traverses the planet replying on not much but a laptop and an internet connection to get by. Well, that and some food and shelter helps... wine... some company every now and then.

At the moment I am in my hometown of Sydney, Australia having just been living in Colombia and the Dominican Republic. Soon, I'll be off to Europe. I make money as a freelance writer and I also like to write my own shit.

I have just completed my first non-fiction book, the aforementioned which you will get for free because you are on my email list. I have more books along the way that you will also get the opportunity to have for free. All I ask in return is a review.

Here are some lessons I've learned along the way to launched my first book:

Writing is hard

It has taken me almost three years to complete my first book, the nonfiction, Goodbye Office, Hello World!: Find freedom, work from anywhere and travel the world. It's a how-to book documenting my journey to becoming location independent. You can download the book for free and, if you would like to support me, you can leave a review.

Marketing is even harder

Just went I thought the hard part was over - completing the book, the real work began - marketing the book.

Since I work full time and all this is done after hours, I decided to allocate a part of my budget to outsourcing the social media marketing. I found an agency online who specialized in Instagram, Twitter and Facebook ads, so I engaged them.

Somehow, they managed to get my Facebook and Instagram promotions restricted, meaning I cannot run paid marketing campaigns on either platform. Since this was a significant part of my pre-book launch marketing strategy, it was a major setback, to say the least. I still can't advertise on either platform. As a result, I have had to resort to other means.

Lesson learned - do not trust any marketing agency to do their job, and do your homework on them before hiring. Preferably, use someone who has been recommended to you.

My plan B was run a Google ads campaign giving away the lead magnet, which is how I found you lovely folk. But, as you can see, I royally f@#ked that up too.

What's next?

Goodbye Office, Hello World!, will be followed up by my first fiction book, a novel called The Sydney Swinger. It is the first in a series called The Global Adventures of Archie Flynn: Digital Nomad(ness) Extraordinaire.

This is a working cover (likely to change):

If you like cracking yarns that take place around the world, while giving lessons on how not to travel, you will enjoy this book.

Travel hack

I am in the process of planning my next trip. I plan on settling in the Caribbean for about a year. But I found it was much more affordable to buy a round-the-world-ticket rather than a return ticket from Sydney Australia.

For US $1,588 I got a ticket with the following Itinerary from Sydney, Australia - Japan - Lisbon - Amsterdam - San Francisco - Cancun - Sydney.

Crazy, right!?

How it works is you can choose to stay in each location as long s you want, as long as the date you return back to your original destination is within one year from when you left.

There are several round-the-world specialist travel agencies. I used one call Airfare Geeks.

Disclaimer: I do not received any affiliate commission from the above link... wish I did though.

Anyhoo, thanks for reading my very first newsletter! And get out and see the world!

Here's the link to Amazon for my book launch.

You only have a few days to download for free!

Important: If you do not read the book it is essential that you flick through to the end before you leave a review to have it approved by Amazon.

Thank you so much

Adios!

Being a Nomad Ain't All Sunshine and Rainbows A comment I get a lot from friends in reaction to pics I post on socials from around the world is:"Living the dream!" Which is precisely why I don't post many pics on socials, because I don't want to give out the impression that I'm living the dream. Living this nomadic existence is definitely not all sunshine and rainbows. There are challenges and it's not for everyone. Many newbie nomads don't last a year. Heck, some don't even last six months,...

Alicante on Spain's Costa Blanca

Welcome to the most infrequent newsletter in the history of newsletters. And most likely the last for 2023. As usual, I've been busy. After moving from country to country, working a remote job, finishing up my first novel and preparing it for launch, I've finally found time to fill in my subscribers. Thank you for your patience. Exploring Spain's Costa Blanca I entered Spain in the middle of a brutal heat wave. Thought I'd get some relief from the topics of the Philippines, but nope, this was...

Hello again! I recently just finished up a six month stint in the Philippines. There was good, bad, and sometimes bizarre times. The Philippines is a popular choice for nomads and expats because you can basically keep extending your tourist visa indefinitely (for a price) You can read all about my experience in my latest blog: Digital Nomad Philippines: The Ultimate Guide to Navigating Island Life White Beach, Boracay, my choice of destination in The Philippines Relationships are hard as a...
